Price and data methodology

Three numbers that must
never be confused.

A station price, a futures benchmark and a delivered supplier quote answer different questions. This page explains what SCF displays, where each value comes from and when a number can be acted on.

Start with the meaning

Price type before price level.

A useful comparison labels the market, unit, timestamp, tax treatment and delivery basis before showing movement or ranking.

01

Public station price

The German MTS-K dataset covers Super E5, Super E10 and diesel at public filling stations. Price changes must be reported to the authority within five minutes and are passed to approved consumer-information services. It is not a bulk delivered-price feed.

02

Reference market

Brent and ICE Gasoil futures help explain broad crude and middle-distillate movement. They trade in different units and currencies and exclude the buyer-specific German tax, freight, credit and delivery position.

03

Delivered supplier quote

This is the commercial number relevant to an order: a named product, quantity, postcode, delivery basis, tax status, validity window and payment term from an approved supplier.

Comparison basis

The fields SCF aligns before ranking an offer.

  1. 01Product identity

Commercial name, grade, blend and contractual quality standard.

  2. 02Quantity basis

Ordered quantity, minimum drop, tolerance and invoiced meter basis.

  3. 03Location and freight

Source terminal, destination postcode, distance, vehicle and unloading constraints.

  4. 04Taxes and levies

Duty-paid or ex-duty status, VAT treatment and applicable carbon-cost component.

  5. 05Time

Quote expiry, loading slot, delivery window and consequences of delay.

  6. 06Credit and payment

Payment due date, credit limit, security, bank verification and cancellation terms.

  7. 07Evidence

Quality certificate, delivery note, calibrated meter record and proof of delivery where applicable.

Product names

“Super 95” is not enough detail.

The same octane rating can carry different ethanol labels. German law links consumer fuel descriptions to the applicable technical standards and required pump labels.

Super 95 E5DIN EN 228

Up to 5% bioethanol label; keep separate from E10 in a comparison.

Super 95 E10DIN EN 228

May contain more than 5% and up to 10% bioethanol; vehicle compatibility remains relevant.

Diesel B7DIN EN 590

Diesel grade labelled as containing up to 7% biodiesel.

Heating oil ELDIN 51603-1

Bulk heating fuel; quote must also state delivery and meter basis.

Source register

Every displayed value carries its source discipline.

Source, observation time, ingestion time, unit, currency, delay and audience entitlement remain attached to the value. If any required field is absent, the value is withheld.

Before accepting an offer

Seven questions worth asking.

  1. 01

    Is the product grade exact?

  2. 02

Is the price delivered, ex-rack or another basis?

  3. 03

Are duty, VAT and carbon cost included?

  4. 04

What quantity tolerance will be invoiced?

  5. 05

Is the delivery window committed or estimated?

  6. 06

When does the offer expire and when is payment due?

  7. 07

Which quality and delivery documents arrive with the load?
